One Mother
An ode to Mother Earth and a plea for climate justice, One Mother weaves material from Vivaldi’s Four Seasons and Stabat Mater into dynamic new songs composed and performed by Taína Asili and arranged for chamber orchestra by Aaron Grad.
Building on the template these collaborators have developed within Many Messiahs, this uplifting new work will use Vivaldi’s exquisite and highly recognizable source material as a springboard to reflect on the changing rhythms of the seasons and our collective hopes for the future in a 30-minute song cycle for voice, percussion and string orchestra.
With lyrics in English and Spanish and songs that appeal to fans of classical and popular styles of music, One Mother will help broaden access to the concert hall in a way that honors both existing and new audiences. To support these efforts, an additional version of the music accompanied by a smaller chamber ensemble will allow for presentations in schools and other community settings.
A consortium of orchestras is commissioning One Mother for performances in 2025-26 and beyond. Contact Aaron Grad for more information.
